RE: Feb 27 Jake's 6pm - Drunk Monk - 04-10-2024 I was including college because that was a landmark period in both our lives. What distinguishes a private club exactly? I never really interacted with that level of fencing. Makes me wonder about Kung Fu private clubs. Those are mostly Tongs. Curious cultural topic. One of the last things I did with Salle Santa Cruz was to help put in a new floor in the gym. I saw someone is teaching a regular class at the Vets Hall in Santa Cruz. Not sure if they are still active, but their blog has a post from this year (check out the tester that Bob built) http://fencinglessons.biz --tg RE: Feb 27 Jake's 6pm - Drunk Monk - 04-10-2024 (04-10-2024, 07:58 AM)thatguy Wrote:(04-10-2024, 12:45 AM)Dr. Ivor Yeti Wrote: I take my yoga classes at Vets Hall. I've seen the flyers still up and some fencing gear is stored in the same room where we store our props so I assume it's still going. Private club for me means it is being run for profit with it’s own dedicated facility, aka: Run as a business. In our day many were run out of colleges or rec programs, the coaches had day jobs, and the quality of the fencing was provincial. Back in our day, the US was a third-rate fencing country. We’re now first rate (in foil and sabre at least). |
