RE: Mexico - King Bob - 01-29-2025

Speaking of warts, long ago I had one on the bottom of my foot that tormented me. Then we went to LA to see the Dead and took some X. It spontaneously healed right after that. Coincidence? Causation? You could try it.

Plantar warts are the worst. I remember getting on burned off at El Camino back when we lived at the duck pond - freakin hurt like hell. I have this crystallized memory of sitting in my car in pain in the parking lot there and realizing I had to pedal with my left foot because my right was hurting so bad.

If X is the cure, I’ve been doing this all wrong.

I also remember getting this weird injury on my toe on dead four. I just grinned and bore it to finish the run. Then when i finally got off tour, back to my apartment, I took my ecstatic shower and gave it a hard look then to ascertain if I needed to book an appointment with my doc. It washed off. Turned out it was just a weird bit of dirt stuck to my toe. That totally reframed dead tour for me.

Most of my Mexico bites have scabbed enough and now are just discolored pits in my skin, but one just peeled off and bled profusely so I’m not out of it yet. Still got my Mexico souvenirs.

Me and The Missus drive out for Tecate, BC Mexico on Thursday morning. Some friends are getting married and the bride is from Tecate.

This was an addition to our planned Summer travels (EuroLand!) and makes for an intense prelude. We’ll drive two days down (picking up additional parties at San Diego Airport) drive to the Tecate border crossing, park the car and walk over the border. 2 days for the wedding, 2 days driving back, fly out to EuroLand the following day.

Any Mexico travel tips are appreciated.

RE: Mexico - Drunk Monk - 07-01-2025

For our last two trips, we were picked up & dropped off at the airport by the retreat center so we were sheltered from any unpleasantries. Some others rented a car and drove about. Some of them got pulled over by police wanted a bribe, which they gave for safe passage.

Our previous trip when Stacy got some dental work, we took the San Diego trolley to the border. A car from the dentist office picked us up and dropped us off again when we went back.

So all our recent trips were escorted. My trip before that was ‘82 so it’s not valid anymore.

Drinking "El Reyes". Tasty. Switching to mojito.

RE: Mexico - Greg - 07-06-2025

It is fiesta time in Guadalajara. And I long to be back in old Mexico.

RE: Mexico - Drunk Monk - 07-06-2025

I long to be pretty much anywhere outside the US right now.

Well, maybe not Ukraine. Or Gaza.

Actually there are a lot of places to avoid right now.

RE: Mexico - Greg - 07-06-2025

I worry about my nephew who's father is from Togo.....

RE: Mexico - Drunk Monk - 07-06-2025

It’s tempting to drop a dime on some rivals and enemies.

But I wouldn’t do that. It would be wrong.

RE: Mexico - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-06-2025

Aaaaaand, we’re back. In the US. Border crossing on foot was way faster than by car, even if one of our party was on a scooter (surgery on both feet) and another was an 8 year old urchin. Traffic was heavy all the way through Hell-A. Currently overnighting in SLO, will get back to SF tomorrow early afternoon. Ate at a restaurant called “Feral”. Good eats/drinks, mostly meats on the food side. Interior was cavernous, featuring whimsical taxidermy and books. Now back in our twee inn, which features books and a library ladder.

Tomorrow, change out Mexi-clothes for Euro-clothes, then fly out Tuesday.

Yeti jet setter

Pray tell, what is the distinction between mexi- & euro-yeti garb?

RE: Mexico - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-06-2025

Mexi was built for heat & wedding (linen suit bought in Austria last year to deal with heat at wedding in Southern Germany).

Euro is all casual with a mind towards heat.
