RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-07-2023 ttt to remind myself... (06-07-2023, 11:29 AM)Drunk Monk Wrote: Speaking of Warrior, I need to get back to that...the Continental screeners came with Warrior eps 4-6 and my original rep for Warrior only provided 1-3. That's next week's task...that's premieres on June 29 and the rep is arranging something for next Tuesday. RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-07-2023 I stand corrected. The screeners provided are all 10 of s3. 4: The aftermath of the raid on Davenport’s Sonoma shelter, and both Young Jun & Mae Ling get busted. Ah Sam delivers a fine fight taking out some bulls (cops in warrior speak). There’s also a Taslim v Dacascos sparring scene that’s solid. The fight choreo has gotten tighter. The return of one of my fav tongsters, Father Jun. 5: a fencing scene - a villainous gwailo practices some saber cuts on a dummy. More star crossed lovers. Lai gets busy practicing dao - she’s my fav sword hawty here. Warrior has got solid momentum with its tangled story arcs. I’m invested in several characters. It’s going at a good pace now - s1 was the weakest season because it was all world building. S2 leaned heavily into thinly guised historical figures. S3 seems to have found its footing with escalating story arcs and characters that have endeared themselves. We got free Max for a trial because Stacy wanted to watch something and now I’m torn over binging this or trying to watch as many Max shows as I can… RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-08-2023 6 was hardcore. Kinky tattooed German uberwoman sex. An unexpected melee oner. So much blood spilled that everyone’s face was covered in it by the end. And a cameo from Shannon. I’d watch more but my east coast YMAA company decided to hold our Q1 meeting at 9:30 am their time which is feckin 6:30 am our time. I’m often semi-awake then, enjoying my last hours of sleep. Stacy is up at daybreak and says she’ll have coffee for me if I manage to get up that early. She’s been going to the Cruz Zendo by the mission to sit at daybreak. I’ve got 5 more eps to binge before next Tuesday, when I have 4 interview blocks scheduled across the day - each paired for only 10 mins. Need to pull out a unifying theme. But that’s next week’s labors… This trailer sums up s3 quite nicely (at least until ep 5) RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-09-2023 7 - Father Jun losing his mind hits a tad close to home for me. It’s a good twist on the character dynamics. Tensions brew between the Irish & Chinese again over a random stupid attack. This is somewhat a filler ep, lining up the next one. 8 - A payout ep that starts with Mai Ling & Li Yong marrying, and Buckley getting elected mayor. There were some issues like Mai Ling’s dress being green instead of red and how Li Yong receives a hongbao - simple cultural oversights that were surprising given how this show tries to honor Chinese culture. Then the fight we’ve been waiting for - Dacascos v Taslim. Nice fight. One of the best this show has delivered so far. And both actors show they can act as well as fight. Then another fight we weren’t expecting - O’Hara b the police chief. Nice fisticuffs - very satisfying. And the end of ep cliffhanger with Lai was great - she’s such a sword hawty. Two more to go… RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-09-2023 9 - starts with a sword fight. Dao v saber (that earlier fencing scene finally comes around). Then some major deaths, including one that crushed me. A brutal penultimate ep. 10 season finale. Stuck the landing with a serious blood bath. More major deaths. Another sword fight. Major fire fight. Epic brawl. The face off we’ve been waiting for. A surprise return. So sanguineous. Bravo! D00M recommended. RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-13-2023 In that virtual waiting room for interview 1 of 4… My colleagues here are from collider, screen rant, the inside reel, polygon & the knockturnal (doesn’t count the press that actually in interview right now. 1 down. The EPs. Went well. Next is the show runner & Shannon. Joined by journalists from dish and La oficina geek. Hang on. There can be only one geek! Now there’s some one from world of martial arts tv. Didn’t even know that was a thing. 2 reps from hbo here now and someone from comic book(?) RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-13-2023 There was a scheduling snafu with my interviews. My next one was supposed to be 12:50 but it’s been moved forward to 11:25 and they’ll probably just roll me into my 4th and final one after that. And we’re back Now in the press room are Kumparan (Indonesia) & Goggler (Malaysia) RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-13-2023 Got some extra time with Andrew & Jason (who were actually in the same room together) because they couldn’t see me on zoom (they just got back from their dinner break). I’m always tripped out talking to them because they both have strong British accents but you never hear that in any of the roles they play. Now in the press room with El Heraldo & LA times… So in these zoom journalist rooms, there’s a lot of sitting around. Occasionally there’s some banter between reporters as we each wait to get called in. Sometimes people turn their camera off. I don’t just because it keeps keeps me mindful. But I post here because I do these off my laptop, not my Mac, and I don’t want to get distracted. RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 06-13-2023 And we're done. That went ok. The rescheduling worked to my advantage. It was fun to chat with everyone and Andrew claimed that he recognized me (that seems unlikely but I have interviewed him a few times before). They all loved my Giants Bruce Lee shirt. It was the first time I got to interview Hoon Lee and I really enjoyed what he had to say. Unfortunately that was the triple interview with him, Diane and Olivia, so we didn't have much time. RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 12-18-2023 Cancelled. Max gave it the axe. The Tong axe. Now no one will ever recognize my Hop Wei cosplay. Netflix has picked up all 3 seasons, so there’s a chance it might gain a third life there for season 4 but the cast has been released from their contracts and are moving on. It’s sad for me. I covered this show extensively. It’s between Warrior and Cobra Kai for which got the most of my attention, and next is the final season of CK too. When this comes to Netflix (likely Feb 2024) check it out. Season 1 is weak but it picks up steam by S2. Totally D00M recommended from then onwards. RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 02-21-2024 Now on Netflix! I rewatched ep 1 last night. It was fascinating to see it again and realize how much of this show was foreshadowed in the pilot. I made a fair amount of money covering this and Cobra Kai, more than any other franchise. I hope they get that season 4. I'll do my part by rewatching more. RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 02-22-2024 I rewatched the final ep. I forgot how bloody this show is. Super sanguineous! It’s holding up better on the second viewing. I had my critical hat on when I first watched it because I was tasked to cover it. I did the most coverage on season 2 which was meaty so there was a lot of write about. Now I can just relax and enjoy the show and it’s more fun - at least the beginning and the end were fun - the alpha & omega. I should cherry pick a few more to watch. RE: Warrior - Greg - 02-23-2024 I watched the first episode again. I was in total DM mode last night. I forgot this was a Skinemax show. All boobs all the time. I'm not against that. I remembered bits and pieces but not a lot so most of it felt new. Might watch more. RE: Warrior - Drunk Monk - 02-23-2024 The boobs vanish by S2. S2 is when Warrior gets a lot better, storywise. Which is saying a lot given the lack of boobs. The fight choreo gets better too. S1 fights were all about Bruce Lee homages, so Koji hadn't found his rhythm yet. If we lived in those days, you'd be a bull and I'd be an onion. RE: Warrior - Greg - 02-23-2024 Well, duh. Total Bull. Strong like bull. Smart like tractor. I guess I won't be watching Season 2, then. |
