Re: 2014-2015 TV Season - King Bob - 07-09-2015

I've been watching Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell and it's good. Nice atmosphere and the special effects are much better now than BBC always used to be. I do think I'll need to read the book to get the whole thing though; a few things seem arbitrary and characters/motivations uncertain.

That's about the only new series I'm watching. I was very sorry that BBC didn't renew Copper. I often watch old stuff on TCM - we only have basic cable because we are skinflints.

Re: 2014-2015 TV Season - El Dingo - 07-10-2015

Check out "Mr. Robot". Christian Slater plays the mysterious leader of a secret hacker group. Very high-level tech stuff. Only 3 episodes so far but looks promising.

Re: 2014-2015 TV Season - thatguy - 07-10-2015

I got turned off in episode 1 when the rep from the security company looked over the protagonist's shoulder and talked about his choice of KDE over Gnome (or vice-versa). The dialog in places seems unnecessarily tedious. I should probably give it a second chance.

Oh, sure. Strike a negative tone now that I have added it to the DVR queue. And I hope USA Network shows reruns.

Re: 2014-2015 TV Season - El Dingo - 07-10-2015

Choosing KDE over Gnome in current environments is pretentious. Gnome is a robust desktop and the default for most Linux OS distros. This is very important dialogue to set the user as a hard-core legacy user is critical character development. It's like a user preferring UNIX over Linux.

Just binged Homeland Season 4 - Drunk Monk - 07-12-2015

You'd think we'd be wary of the ol' '1st one is free' scam. But no. Showtime offered a free month for streaming. So we caught up on Homeland. S did it all in one night while I was in Chicago. I did it in three nights. Luv this show. The loss of Brody and his family really detracts from this season, but I still can't get enough of the Carrie-cry-face. The major plot devices were predictable this season, but it was still enjoyable. And there's a decent hallucination.

Re: 2014-2015 TV Season - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-12-2015

Were you having the hallucination or was it in the show?

No, no dear, *this* is the dream, you're still in the cell. - Drunk Monk - 07-12-2015

Actually, that's what I like most about Homeland. Carrie is bi-polar so she goes through spells. But in this case, she gets dosed with a drub twice as powerful as LSD, but I didn't catch what it was. Might have been a made-up drug.

Of course - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-12-2015

Drubs usually are very powerful.

If you've never hallucinated... - Drunk Monk - 07-12-2015

...how do you know what a hallucination really is? How do you know you aren't hallucinating now?

Never mind the red pill. You didn't even take the blue pill.

Muppets & Kimmy Schimdt - Drunk Monk - 09-26-2015

Both shows reek of Tina Fey humor. I enjoy that but only when Tina herself is delivering it. So both shows are meh.

Blindspot - Drunk Monk - 09-26-2015

Meh

Re: 2014-2015 TV Season - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 09-27-2015

I enjoyed "Blindspot" but I recognize some of the lazy elements of it. The Deus was ex Machined a few times, but it is intriguing enough for me to give it a few episodes. Besides, the actress is hot.

Indian Summers - Drunk Monk - 09-28-2015

Meh. It's not even India. It's Malaysia.

I still say 'meh' - Drunk Monk - 09-28-2015

Granted. And she's nekkid a lot. But that first tattoo mystery was silly, even if it did lead to a random Chinatown fight scene. Needed a sword fight.
