It was $1500 to clean out the Millbrae shop. I used Bay Junk.

I just heard back from A Place for Mom. Srsly? Just over a half year too late...

We're really happy with the facility she's in now. It's as good as can be and the manager is incredibly attentive. The only downside is my mom has no one to talk to - the other clients don't speak except for that one who speaks in Chinese half of the time and constantly tries to escape (she did manage to get out once, so staff is on alert and my mom snitches on her if she sees her make a move). Staff are all Filipino, so the big TV is often tuned to Filipino news (which is in English and subtitled).

We're good with money for a little bit for now...

It's good and bad for your mom. It sucks she has no one to talk to. I'll be contacting you if my mother ever needs to go to a home (She needs to go to a home now but can afford not to)

When the time comes, I'm planning on having a really big estate sale after weeding out the stuff the family wants ( The family wants none of it)

Sell tickets, $20 for 10 minutes in there with a BB gun. You could make a fortune

Fair. Could you wear a Go-Pro while you do it, though?

Why wouldn't I?

RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-28-2023

Every time I unlock my mom’s house, I’ve had two fears. 1. That I’d find one of my parents fallen or dead 2. That I’d find the house had been robbed.

Well my dad already died and my mom is at the home. So it’s the second fear that I just actualized.

I got here to find that sliding glass door was smashed and the house was ransacked. The police came, filed a report and csi dusted for prints only to find lots of smudges which means they were probably wearing gloves. I can’t tell was was stolen because the house is a mess: a tin of keys that I didn’t know where they fit, my mom’s old oxycontin and gabapentin, some jewelry. Still cleaning up.

Her neighbor came over to help me patch the glass door. Grateful for him.

Might take a sick day tomorrow to deal with this.

Fuck.

Thanks tg. I'm good. I'm just going to focus on getting the door repaired and cleaning up some more, then head back over to the Cruz.

How's your mom doing now?

RE: my mom - King Bob - 03-29-2023

I'm back from SD Wednesday pm and off the rest of the week. I can also lend a hand if you need one.

RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-29-2023

Thanks but I'm okay. Not much to do really. I've cleaned up most of the mess - just the master bedroom which was the most rifled. Honestly, I've avoided that room. My mom hasn't been upstairs in a year and it just feels weirdly invasive to be in my parents' bedroom. I don't know exactly what was in there.

I've got the window repair people coming tomorrow (hopefully - they're busy with the storm). I'll stay here another night.

Repair will be around $1K. My mom's homeowner insurance has a $3800 deductible so that's not helpful.

So far, it looks like they stole my mom's purse (which I don't think had much in it beyond a little petty cash - I have her CDL and visa card), my mom's old med (she had some leftover oxycontin), my pillow case (probably for a loot bag), some jewelry (my mom had a lot but most was cheap - so far I think they missed the better stuff but I can't be sure and my mom doesn't remember), a tin container of keys (none of which I knew what they might've been for).
