RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-01-2021

E2 - all I’ll add to Greg’s review is that the evil city was cool. And then it went black.

E3: Yes, Prague scenery is lovely, especially with a little cgi enhancement.

I liked the lusty barmaid. That story worked for me.

And in the end...The Professor! The real reason I’m watching this.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-01-2021

E4: Again I concur with Greg’s appraisal above but I have not read the books and don’t feel like I’m missing much. Yeah the clans are color coded. That’s nothing new. Yeah the evil dagger from the evil city where they weren’t supposed to touch anything - yeah right - that’s evil - I don’t need the book backstory to get the gist of that.

This Ep had more of the Professor (he was only teased in the last scene of the previous Ep) and this role isn’t giving Morte much latitude. So far, the False Dragon is a menacing wielder of dementor smoke, no where near the complexity of the Professor. And now that the sun has arrived, is that done? I dunno. Seemed pivotal but then again maybe not.

It’s no GoT. It’s closer to Shannara. And I read Shannara but don’t remember a thing about it. I tried to watch some because it was the same showrunners as Into the Badlands, but it sucked. Wheel of Time doesn’t suck. But it’s no GoT. Not by a long shot.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-09-2021

E5: I was kinda getting into this but then I fell asleep. I didn’t think I was that tired.

Maybe the cold took it out of me. I was at Kung Fu outdoors and could get my qi warmed up plus my knees were unwilling to bend (I blame last night’s rain - rain often stiffens my knees).

I gave my crate of WLE VHS tapes to an aspiring student who still has a VCR. I’ve had them since Sifu gave them to me maybe 25 years ago or so as a congratulations for completing them with cf. Some have never been spun so I doubt they’re even watchable anymore. They’ve been sitting at my mom’s house and I’ve thought about just tossing them many times. I’m so glad someone might appreciate them. This student is a good friend, the one who got me the temp job at 5 Branches when the mag folded, and that was a life saver.

But back to TWoT, falling asleep was not out of boredom. It was exhaustion. I was hoping for some distraction, but no. All I got was some uncomfortable napping. I woke to the end of the Ep when someone was screaming.

I may go back for it. Or I may just read a synopsis online and move on.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Greg - 12-12-2021

Ep05 was a really good episode. Lots of tension and drama amongst the Aes Sedai. It felt like there was a real story happening. I do love the evil Red Aes Sedai except there is something wrong with her face.

On a story note, I barely remember the books, but what I remember doesn't jibe at all with what is going on in the show. And not just in minor ways, but in major ways. But oh well.

We tried to watch on Friday night but we kept getting the spinning wheel of death as the TV tried to connect to the server to little success.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-13-2021

Are you mocking me? So, based on your review, I went back for what I missed in E5. Turns out it wasn’t much.

E6 moved the story along significantly. Still not sure how much I’m into it, but I’m enjoying the sets, costumes and Rosamund’s performance. ‘On your knees’ indeed.

Of course Stacy pops in during the bathing scene.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Greg - 12-14-2021

How did you get to episode 06 when there are only 5 episodes released. Or is my count off?

I would never mock you, Sober Monk.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-14-2021

I think your count is off. It would explain your enjoyment of e6 because then I’d agree. That was the most engaging Ep so far and your description of it fits.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Greg - 12-14-2021

Very good. Moving on. The last ep I saw was the turmoil at the tower starring Morraine.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-19-2021

E7: the opening fight scene is absurdly ridiculous. I fell asleep and missed some but I think I got the gist. The show has improved now that the fellowship has their quest. Still not clear on the parameters of channeling but that’s me being nit picky.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Greg - 12-19-2021

E7: That was a poor episode. The fight scene was good now that you bring it back to mind. But yes ridiculous. The revelation at the end seemed to come out of nowhere. And like the books you have to ask what is that main character doing that we didn't see through the entire episode. At least everyone was boning.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-19-2021

Wait... I fell asleep duding the boning?

RE: The Wheel of Time - Greg - 12-19-2021

DM: Always duding during the boning

RE: The Wheel of Time - cranefly - 12-19-2021

There really should be a dialect of English consisting entirely of typos.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Greg - 12-19-2021

There is. It's called The DM.

RE: The Wheel of Time - Drunk Monk - 12-19-2021

fell asleep duding the boning = euphemism obvs
