We bailed on the symphony last night. The omicron numbers are just too high right now, and still climbing with a bullet as they say. We're writing it off as a donation to the symphony. Bummed about it. We're getting pretty damn stir crazy here at the bungalow.

On the bright side, the tsunami seems to have subsided here. It was a surreal 'non-event'. The harbor is just a short walk from our bungalow and I could've strolled down at any time to see it for myself, but with the surge I have no desire to be amongst the unwashed masses, so I just watched it online, like everyone else. I could hear it at lunch.

Why do surfers view the tsunami warning as a call to the waves?

RE: Sheltering in Place - King Bob - 01-16-2022

I saw on the news that the water level only went up about a foot at high tide in Santa Cruz (although the late night high tide could have been higher). And it flooded that parking lot? Is it below sea level?

That's the harbor parking lot.

I'm told there was free parking there yesterday.

The tsunami hit during high tide. Interestingly, the 2011 tsunami that cause $26 million in damage, scuttled many boats in their berths, destroyed some piers, hit a low tide.

This was a pre-planned surfing contest that went ahead until it could not.

Daniel Wu texted me about this - a welfare check. So did a few other friends. That was cool.

684: Today I have an interview to do over zoom with a longtime YMAA student who has done some videos that are getting reissued under a new title. Then it’s prep because I’m losing most of tomorrow because of my mom’s dental surgery.

Damn. I'm not getting welfare checks from Daniel Wu.

I saw photos at other beaches of surfers waiting for big waves from the Tsunami.

685: Today my mom has dental surgery. That’ll take up most all of today I suspect.

Good luck. Fingers crossed it goes well for your mom and you. You should bring Yuki for emotional support.

686: Make a soft breakfast for my mom, then a YMAA telemeet, then mom chores, then an immortal telemeet then some dog parking. Dog parkin is my daily highlight now. So relaxing usually - idle chat while watching Yuki run amuck is therapeutic.

At the vet's office with the girls.

Went to work for a while, still no heat in the building. Installed the new deadbolt at home, and had to grind the lockplate a little because the bolt was hitting it. Apparently the bolt on the old lock was a bit smaller.

If any of you want a keyless deadbolt, I'll give you the old one. It works fine and is only a few months old; we just didn't like it that much. It's a Kwikset Smartcode 913
