I took a 2 week B/W class with him in Maine. (apparently I've mentioned it before: http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=2172&pid=13612&highlight=orland#pid13612)
We went on a photo field trip to Vinalhaven Island. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinalhaven%2C_Maine) While we were busy running around taking photos for a project, he set up the above shot at an old fort and then had the entire class set up their tripods in the old gun mounts. I can't remember everyone's name, but that's Robin in the black shorts in front of me. She was from Brattleboro, VT. And next to us, in the white is Melissa. She was from somewhere in the south.
I have a couple of really good pix from that outing (somewhere)...

I bumped into Ted just now and mentioned your story. He taught at Cabrillo for years so at first he kind of brushed it off because he's had so many students. But when I mentioned the photo of you and the group on the gun mounts, he lit up. He remembers that photo very well. He said there weren't many of those around, but I'm sure he means official prints, not the book. I dunno, maybe he means the book. He really is a sweet gentleman. I chatted with him and his wife as their dog went nuts running about - after mentioning your story tg, we were mostly talking about Chelsea's latest tribulation.

I didn't like this one as much as the first two books in the series and I dearly loved the first one. It seemed like such a fresh take on the magic school trope. Golden Enclaves didn't seem to have a clear focus on where the story should go. Most of the first part of the book was El moping for her lost Orion. Then she realized that she might have to save him by killing him. Then she realized she needed to save the Enclaves where Wizards live apart from the mundane world. Finally there is a big battle to resolve the questions.
I guess the sequences built on each other but not really in a solid way. This was the weakest of the three books. Still kind of enjoyable because El is so grouchy.
Just finished this trilogy and agree with the G-Man.
