Unnecessary vowels lead to the softening of the whisky palate. It is a well-known scientific fact. Also, Jameson tastes like vanilla-extract. There. I said it.

I completely recant what I said about Powers. When I first tried it, I told the tender 'that's too smooth. That's dangerous.' He laughed. We got two bottle at the duty free when we left to spend the last of our Irish cash. And now, I love it. So smooth. Too smooth...and warming like a friendly kiss from a ginger Irish lass. Mmmmmm. Still not my cup of...whisky, but worth it for the experience. I was lucky to have Glenn as my Irish whisky guide.

I know Red Breast - did a flight of it in Galway trying all the less costly ones. I'm only drinking Irish stuff nowadays, even Jameson, which I'm not particularly fond of but it can be found in most every U.S. bar. But there's just something about Powers now for me - that smoothness, not a quality I usually seek in whiskey, but it works for my palette presently...and my pocketbook.
