Also, Jameson tastes like vanilla-extract. There. I said it. RE: Ireland 2016 - thatguy - 01-03-2017 superfluousity is arguable A Plan for the Improvement of English Spelling by Mark Twain For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g/j" anomali wonse and for all. Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x" -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivli. Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld. well played tg - Drunk Monk - 01-03-2017 In Gaelic, it's uisce betha. Uisce for short. RE: Ireland 2016 - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 01-03-2017 You wanna spell in Gaelic, you gotta use Ogham. Helps if you are a druid, too. Ogham - good term - Drunk Monk - 01-03-2017 I gotta carve it in stone too? I played a Druid in D&D. Does that count? I think we should take up this debate up over drinks. One more for the road... - Drunk Monk - 01-04-2017 For the record, James Joyce spells it 'whisky' and that's good enough for me. RE: Ireland 2016 - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 01-05-2017 Speaking of *Whisky*, The Whisky Gods were kind to me again this year. All Doomers are invited to sample the wares at Victory. I completely recant what I said about Powers. When I first tried it, I told the tender 'that's too smooth. That's dangerous.' He laughed. We got two bottle at the duty free when we left to spend the last of our Irish cash. And now, I love it. So smooth. Too smooth...and warming like a friendly kiss from a ginger Irish lass. Mmmmmm. And it's own available in the U.S. And it's cheap, at least as imports go. I think I'll have another. Yes please. RE: Ireland 2016 - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 09-29-2017 Put the Red Breast on your list, and if someone else is buying, maybe some Middleton. Still not my cup of...whisky, but worth it for the experience. I was lucky to have Glenn as my Irish whisky guide. Drank - Drunk Monk - 09-30-2017 I know Red Breast - did a flight of it in Galway trying all the less costly ones. I'm only drinking Irish stuff nowadays, even Jameson, which I'm not particularly fond of but it can be found in most every U.S. bar. But there's just something about Powers now for me - that smoothness, not a quality I usually seek in whiskey, but it works for my palette presently...and my pocketbook. Ttt 4 2017 - Drunk Monk - 11-21-2017 I just got word - confirmation that'll I'll be returning to the Badlands...NEXT WEEK! Yes! - cranefly - 11-21-2017 Yes! Congrats, DM. I was hoping this would happen. RE: Ireland 2016 - Greg - 11-21-2017 Yeah, great. Swell. Really happy for you. No really. Totally chuffed. Only doing it to one up your Brando-Jackson interview today. No, not really. I'm going back for some more whiskey research and to treat myself to another proper Guinness. I've done the S.CA - N.CA flight in one day thing. It's exhausting. I reached out to Daniel Wu but unfortunately he won't be available that weekend as he must fly back to London for some Tomb Raider pick up scenes. So I asked him to set me up with Emily. |
