"Bones" series by Carolyn Haines

The Yeti might enjoy these murder mysteries. They're of a similar style to the Stephanie Plum -- nowhere near as entertaining/amusing, but engaging. I'd put them on a par with the April Wu detective books by Leslie Glass.

Heroine detective in this series is Sarah Booth Delaney, a sort of Southern belle who is haunted (looked after?) by a ghost of a former slave from the family home she's inherited. Supporting character development through each book is what makes the books interesting reading -- the individual mysteries are just structure to build around. I like that they never get too big for her to realistically manage and that like Stephanie Plum, it's mostly dumb luck and persistence that helps her figure things out in the end vs. being a superhero, or particularly smart.

Very fast reads -- probably this should go under the heading of "junk food books." Not quite as fast as a Parker, but close. :-) Certainly made good airport/airplane/sitting alone in the hotel room entertainment.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
