Family Plan (2023)
#1
Mark Wahlberg plays a hitman in hiding in upstate New York in Buffalo living the peaceful suburban life with a wife and three kids. Things come unraveled when his picture appears on the internet and his cover is blown. His former employers want him dead and they are sending hit teams to make sure that happens. Wahlberg has to go on the run with his wife and the kids to Las Vegas to get new identities. It's a cat and mouse game across the US as Wahlberg dodges bullets while also spending quality time with his teenage children who's lives have grown distant from his.

Look, if DM can watch Family Switch, I can watch Family Plan. Sadly, Family plan is horrible. I spent a lot of the movie thinking I know this film. It dawned on me later, it's almost a remake of True Lies or that kind of story where the dad finally reconnects with his family after they find out about his secret life. Except, the family has to be really dumb not to question why his father is suddenly doing all these crazy things. Let's go to Vegas. Let's drive there. Let's ditch our phones. Let's have a big fight in the grocery store that no one remarks on once it is over. Let's have a car chase while the family is sound asleep. So many of these situations.

And the fight scenes are bad. They are all really choppy because I don't think Wahlberg has done any fight work like this before. Nothing to really write home about. Maggie Q makes an appearance but she would twirl her evil mustache if she had one.

The movie also ends up at the same abandoned hotel they used for Zach Snyder's Army of the Dead which was disconcerting. On the plus side, if you need to see Wahlberg's third nipple this is is the film for you.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Might I say that this is a terrible strategy for you to adopt for 2024.

I also watched Family Switch - Christina had an idea to watch a bunch of bad Xmas movies, and it was about the worst.

I've had it with Wahlberg. He just annoys me now.

Have you known me to have good strategies?
