Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of our Lives (2019)
#1
It's the story of Clive Davis. Turns out he repped a lot of big stars the most famous of which was Whitney Houston.

The documentary does a Yeoman's job of covering all the bases of his life. There was a bit of a payola scandal back in the 1970s but he was vindicated. They talk about Whitney and her death. They talk to a lot of the artists he broke. They interviewed a lot of the artists he helped from every genre. I was kind of bored because the arc of his life pretty much went up. There were some setbacks but he bounced back. It took me two sittings to get through this.

I think his biggest strength was matching the artist to the songs. Even an artist like Barry Manilow was required to put two of Clive's chosen songs on his records. Those turned out to be the biggest hits. "I write the Songs" was written by one of the Beach Boys.

I give this a resounding meh.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
