Ella Fitzgerald - Just one of those things
#1
A new doc on Ella. Man, what a life she led. A decent overview of a fascinating story. Inspirational.

Could’ve used more music but I say that about almost all musical docs. I really wanted to hear some Louis & Ella duets. Some of the talking heads were mediocre. There was some songstress that kept fawning over what she meant to music and African Americans - she had a Brit kilt and I have no idea who she was. But that’s a pithy critique. It’s really all about Ella.

Recommended if you like jazz, scat, bebop, or American standards.

Her husband (for a time) was the bassist Ray Brown, whose book I'm using.

He was mentioned but almost in passing.

And I meant lilt above, not kilt.
