One of the best ninja movies yet. That’s not a high bar, but it is a beloved genre of mine and this ranks up in the top 3. It’s Hasbro’s Batman Begins.
Sword fights galore. Forget those other movies. This is a whole new tale, with potential for an entirely new arc.
It had its cliches, ridiculous logic leaps and motivations got muddled in the end after so many double crosses (feckin ninjas are back stabbers) but it was an excuse for more gratuitous fight scenes and there’s some tasty ones here.
Mostly it’s got style. Item an eye candy movie and that candy is katana fights.
Goulding & Koji delivered the goods. Úrsula - well, that’s my only complaint - not enough Úrsula. She stole every scene in a black leather catsuit and severe stiletto heels. She also had my fav line, the one that got a chuckle.
DOOM recommended. Heck, given our ninja roots, DOOM required. Greg will hate on the writing (and I’ll have to remind him that it’s a ninja film) but might admire some of the cinematography. The camera moved well with the action.
Got some cool swag - a new logoed mask and the thickest glossiest embossed posters ever.

Well bummer. It looks like the interviews aren't happening. I felt like it was late in the game.
I'm pivoting and writing up something else. Hopefully I can sell it to Den. If not, I'll run it on KFM. I have to have something to show to the screener providers to remain active on their list. I had planned cursory intros for Golding, Koji, Hama (the original comic artist) and Tanigaki (the fight choreographer) in my head. Now I'm spitting all those fragments out and hoping to make something cohesive from it.
Not sure it's working but I'm working with a net (I can publish anything on KFM - I get paid more to publish on Den tho). I'll give it another look in the morning.
