Moe's already re-opened softly on May 31. Kava Jah, a local reggae singer, performed in the courtyard with my homie DJ Spleece on the 1 & 2s.
There's also an underground Reggae gathering happening in the Santa Cruz mountains - a private show - with Don Carlos & Dub Vision headlining. It's called the Right Vibes Festival on June 19th. Junior Toots, Ancestree, and Kava Jah are also playing, along with Spleece DJing and Rocky Bailey MCing. You have to email or call to get tix. I thought about it, but I'll be coming back from San Diego, and it just sounds a bit sketchy to me.
Another underground Reggae went down in the SC mountains a month or so ago. Same sort of rogue deal but I didn't follow up. It was before I was vaxxed.
I do love Don Carlos tho...

You know, the Kung Fu academy where I train is really close to Moe's. We've been training in the parking lot - masked and socially distanced. We can hear when there's bands loading in and sound checking.
And there's been music there during most sessions over the last two weeks. Not sure if it's a band warming up for a show or if it's just some band practicing there because the space is available.
