Trey Anastasio @ Warfield 12/7/6
#1
Trey was the lead guitar for Phish, the other band I used to work for. His latest band has a four-piece brass section, drums, keys, a back-up singer and a bass player that has some connection to the Nevilles, or so I'm told. It was a good show - a fine jammy funky sound, with plenty of instrumental action. Strangely, even though I worked for Phish, I don't know that many of there songs. I was always working. I never had the chance to just sit and watch them. I've always enjoyed their scene, after all, it was the kind of scene that kept me gainfully employed doing what I do at shows, so I can't fault that. Trey's followers were nice clean kids - all peace, love, the gap, if you will - the kynd of crowd that comes up and gives you handshakes and hugs at random, but not what most people would view as hippies. Too young, too clean. Nevertheless, it was pungent with the rich aroma of CA's finest. Trey still has it - he even went into his pogo schtick on several songs. He was clearly happy to be playing, but his band just followed, which detracted from his improv talents. He's better playing off someone than leading, IMHO. He didn't seem as impressive as the last time I saw him front his own band, but he's still very enjoyable.

Quote:Ex-Phish Frontman Trey Anastasio Accused of DUI
Friday, December 15, 2006

WHITEHALL, N.Y. — Trey Anastasio was accused of driving under the influence of drugs in an upstate New York town near the Vermont border early Friday.

The former Phish frontman was pulled over by an officer who saw his car failing to keep to right side of the road at about 3:30 a.m., Whitehall village police said.

A search turned up quantities of the painkillers hydrocodone and Percocet, as well as the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, that had been prescribed for someone else, police said.

Anastasio, who was driving with a suspended New York license, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated-drugs, police said.

The 42-year-old guitarist was released and scheduled for a court appearance at a later date.

Anastasio lives in Vermont and has been performing solo since Phish broke up in 2004.

Was he the Phish member that was caught with an underage girl about two or three years ago?

Rather than wait, I checked. It was bassist Mike Gordon who was arrested on charges of Child endangerment.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

...but I ran into Mike on the way backstage at Vibes for Peace the week before. He was out cruising the crowd. The Phish guys were always very accessible to their fans. It pays to be a rock star.

Note that Mike is a real young looking dude. Not that this is any excuse for fraternizing with minors, but he looks like he's just out of high school, even up close.

He should be punished for the slap bass playing. That really turned me off Phish. I kept thinking of Seinfeld.
