Peace Talks by Jim Butcher

It's volume 16 of the Harry Dresden files.

I was burnt out on Harry for a while but this book seems to get back to the snarky Dresden that we know and love. I don't suggest starting with this volume because at this point, the books are just one long extended story but they are good light entertainment. The stakes keep getting higher. Once again Chicago is under threat and it's up to Harry to defend it. There are lots of references to the earlier books so if you haven't read those, you will be lost.

And it ends on a not so much a big cliff hanger but the beginning of the next chapter of the story. Fortunately, the next book, Battleground, will be out in September.

If you are looking for a good long series, you can't go wrong with this one.

Battleground by Jim Butcher

The fight for Chicago against a Titan! The book basically takes place over one night as Dresden has to battle the Titan Enniu. Everyone Dresden has ever known, friend or foe, pops up in the book. The all have to join forces for this one night to defeat Enniu or the human race will be destroyed. It's well done. Lots of good major battles and one-on-one battles. There is trickery and surprise. Dresden gets beaten down pretty bad but manages to get back up.

This book closes the chapter on certain aspects of Dresden's life and plants the seeds for new adventures and complications.
