I've never been a big Gibson fan. It could be I just don't understand his novels. They are densely loaded with a lot of jargon I don't understand. It's like Hannah Gadsby says about autism, "There sending out these memos that I'm just receiving" I feel the same way reading his books.
But as so often is the case, I fell to the pressure of reviews. I saw that The Agency was getting a lot of good reviews and maybe I should read it to see if things had changed. Thank you library for making this painless.
Yep. More of the not getting. Lots of jargon. Lots of technology I wasn't understanding.
Basically an app beta tester is given a new App that turns out to have far more capabilities than advertised. Soon she finds herself on the run from the company that gave her the App because it is just a shell company for a military company. Meanwhile another timeline all together is trying to help out in the App timeline to fend off a global apocalypse.
I eventually got up to speed with what was happening in the book, but it wasn't very interesting. They spent a lot of time running around the Bay Area and hiding until they were discovered then they did more running. Eventually they stopped running and had a big reveal party.
And nothing seemed to be recognizably different than when it started. Yes there were resolutions but they were well off screen.
To add to my confusion or maybe I shouldn't have been as confused as I should have been, this book is the sequel to a 2013 book called The Peripheral. It's the middle book in a trilogy. That book will be called Jackpot.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
