Why Greg hates the forum
#1
Subtitled: "Why does he keep breaking it?"

I'm figuring none of you noticed that the forum was down for an hour on Saturday. But it was and for a while, I figured it was going to be down for good.

See, I was trying to be good. The forum kept telling me to upgrade. I was four versions behind. Plus if I upgraded I could use some character recognition on the signup form (check it out. It's just like ticket master) to weed out the spammers and I wouldn't have to delete all those people that had cialis in their names.

I hit the upgrade button and a millisecond later I realized I hadn't backed up the configuration file properly. You know, the little file that tells the forum where all the posts are located in the database and who made them and on what date, etc. I checked. I hadn't saved the right config file. I'd saved a blank one. The one I needed to save was on the server.

It only took about forty five minutes to figure out the special phrases to make the forum work again. It's like any good computer game. What arbitrary selection of key hits will get me the cookie? Its probably the reason you had to login to do your posts.

I hate computers.

Yup, had dinner with him and a bazillion Doomies last night at Legbone's 40th Birthday Bash. Weren't you there? It was so crowded I missed some people, like DM for instance...

It seems faster today. They said at hamster headquarters, they were working on it. I think they did, because the pages are popping right up. As opposed to allowing time for me to do the crossword puzzle while I waited for the pages to load.

Take that, haters.

Here's the guys I use.

$10 a year (for somethingawful goons. Well worth the $10 lifetime membership.)

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Hole in the Wall Hosting is pleased to be offering the lowest priced web hosting in SA-Mart!

Through our simple one-plan offer, you will receive an entire year of web hosting for the price of a forums account. At this cost, and with our 30 day money back guarantee, there is literally nothing to lose in at least giving us a shot. We'll give you back your if you're unsatisfied for whatever reason in the whole entire world!

We have tried to tailor a hosting plan that doesn't totally infringe upon the other SA-Mart competition. In other words, we are only looking to undercut the competition in price, so if you need massive disk space and bandwidth, you'll definitely be better off with one of the other hosts here. On the other hand, if you're new to web hosting or even seasoned and seeking a tentative service to place one of your less active accounts in, we are probably the host for you.

* Diskspace: 400MB
* Bandwidth: 20GB/month
* Domains: Unlimited
* MySQL Databases: Unlimited
* Email Accounts: Unlimited
* FTP Accounts: Unlimited

But wait! The above listing only represents our regular pricing. To avoid making this thread superfluous, we do indeed have a goon deal on hand. SA users will receive all of the above (click "our $10 package" for details) but with 500MB diskspace and 25GB bandwidth instead of the default account allocations!
