McConaughey is a balding alcoholic two-bit prospector on his last dollar who backs Edgar Ramirez on an Indonesian gold mine. Bryce is his too gorgeous, too faithful gal. They strike gold and soar into big money and all its pitfalls. It was an unbelievable rise, even if it's based on 'true events' (loosely, especially given the ending). Distracting for the time being, and we do need distractions. Neither of us are that into McConaughey and this was his vehicle, so much so that he shows his ass. Bryce was the only notable female character and way to pretty for the role (a barmaid, and thus a drunkard's love interest). No swordfights. Not DOOM recommended.
