Late Night
#1
Maybe this should be in movies, but it was on Netflix, so?

Emma Thompson is a late night host who is slipping in the ratings and facing replacement. She wants to get a woman writer, so they hire Mindy Kaling, who is a devoted fan but has no experience. Naturally they succeed.

Weak. I like Emma Thompson, but she wasn't on screen enough. And this movie really just retread stuff that Tina Fey had done better already on 30 Rock. And Mindy Kaling's plastic surgery and fillers made her a bit weird looking - her face can't move much anymore.

Agree with KB for the most part on this one. Definitely shades of 30 Rock and The Office too.

Stories about writers are always amusing and annoying. It's amusing from the perspective of a writer on how other writers want the process to be portrayed. Mindy, like Tina, began as a writer. It's also annoying because it is self indulgent. I did like Mindy's angle on being a woman and a person of color. That was a bit of a fresh spin on this but not quite developed enough.

Hugh Dancy was a good cad. John Lithgow was charming as always. Props to Paul Walter Hauser, who caught my attention in Cobra Kai and Richard Jewell, and is becoming the new chubby schlub.

Strangely, I liked this more than Stacy.
