Wanderers by Chuck Wendig
#1
I found myself hate reading this by the end. I just wanted to be done with it. It was just a big bag of derivative.

It's the end times. Our society is riven by social discord. White nationalism is on the rise. Partisianship is everywhere. An enigmatic billionaire is out to unseat the current president. Blah blah blah.

Into this starts a strange case of people going catatonic and starting to wander the United States as a group. They become the flock. The people that watch them are the shepherds. This takes up the majority of the first part of this over long book. Yes, it's all about walking. Walking. Walking. Walking.

But that's not the main threat to the world population. There is another plague coming. A plague that nothing can be done about. The population will be wiped out. Everyone review compares it to the Stand. Even Wending references The Stand in the novel. It's all a lot of navel gazing.

And Wendig uses the book to highlight his social views. He talks about Gun Reform. He talks about White Nationalism. He talks about LGBTQ issues. All under the guise of this pre/post apocalyptic novel. I share most of his views but the approach here was very heavy handed.

And best of all, he left some threads hanging for a sequel.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
