I continue to punish myself. But this show has been part of my life since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Brevity was the hallmark of the night. Not a lot of chatter. They cut the presentations of the various Best Movie segments to a minute or less. I was really surprised to see Tom Morello as one of the presenters. And on the whole there were surprises in who the Academy chose to present Best Movies.
The Queen opening rocked. I'm still surprised that Rami Malek won. Although it should be noted he did fall off the stage and paramedics were called in. Some of the speeches were really good. I'm always happy to see people genuinely excited by winning the awards.
On the whole it felt like a cheap show. Not a lot of production to it. They didn't go out on a limb to spice things up. I think they just wanted to get it over with.
I thought it was funny that Barbara Streisand gave a shout out to Spike Lee, mentioning that they both grew up in Brooklyn. Although sour grapes from Spike Lee over not winning Best Picture. He mentioned that if there was going to be somebody driving in the pictures then he was going to lose. He famously lost to Driving Miss Daisy 27 years ago. I still don't think BlacKKKlansman was that good either. But I have yet to see Green Book.
I was a pretty medium affair overall.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
