The Last Dragon (1985)

Barry Gordon’s cult classic does not hold up well. So cheesey. The soundtrack is almost unlistenable now. The fight choreography is rather amateur. Cultural appropriation? Maybe now. Sho Nuff is still awesome tho. He’d make a good Halloween costume.

I met Taimak - it was either ABA or a comic con. He was trying to generate interest in some sort of sequel and getting no response. I was one of the few who recongnized him. It was before selfies.

I also stalked Vanity. She had a terrible drug addiction, recovered and found god. She’s really stunning in this - like Sho Nuff one of the only redeeming factors.  She wrote an autobiography and preached and was living in Fremont. I tracked down the PO box she was using to sell her book. It was near Tiger Claw. Tried to find contact info in hopes of some kind of interview, but it never came to pass. She died before we connected.

Ernie Reyes Jr is in this too as the unconvincing Kung Fu fightin kid. His dad, local to San Jo, was a fight choreographer.

This is on Netflix now but I’d avoid it. Treasure any good memories you have of this because you can’t go back. Sometimes it’s so spoiling when you try.

Enjoyed this back in the day, was tempted to revisit, but will not on your advice.

Instead, looks like I'll check out Cottonpickin' Chickenpickers (1967)
