Medici: Masters of Florence
#1
Kinda got into this show over the weekend.  It's about the Medicis (duh) and seems to take a few flagrant liberties with the history to make it into this soap opera, plus I don't like Cosimo (who reminds me of a bad Colin Farrell) nor Lorenzo (who reminds me of a bad Hugh Jackman).  The big name is Dustin Hoffman as Giovanni, who pulls a Capt. Georgiou in the first few minutes of ep 1, but then reappears in a ton of flashbacks.  There's some nudity and so far (only a few eps deep) one quick sword fight.  Lots of backstabbing tho.  Mostly, it's about the construction of Duomo di Firenze, so we all know how it's going to end because both me and Greg have climbed to the top of that (Greg when he was but a wee lad, a young strong buck, me but a few months ago when I was already an old broken fart).  Maybe they'll pull a Tarantino and rewrite history.  Unlikely.  They're gonna finish the dome - it's just a matter of how long to milk that story arc.  Nevertheless, it's fun to see Firenze, even if its mostly CGI Firenze (Duomo sans dome).  I'm hoping for more swordfights, maybe a bit more nudity and lots more gratuitous CGI Firenze, even if some stuff doesn't quite line up right.  They did shoot some stuff on location because it is an Italian co-production with Britain.

To be fair to me, I've climbed many a tower in my dotage. I also climbed to the top of Yosemite Falls recently. When I was at my heaviest, I climbed to the top of the Sagrada De Familia in Barcelona. I did a selfie video where my is all bloated and sweaty and I look like I'm inches from a heart attack.

Young strong buck indeed.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Yay. You can also be a cardholding member of the old broken farts club. But I was specifically focused on this Duomo because there was a point when I thought ‘well, if Greg did it’ only to discover that you meant in your wee lad days.

I still feel deceived.  Angry

I did half dome last year. Breakin like an old fart. Tongue

Finished season 1. It’s was kind of a dumb soap opera, but I like the Contessina and Marco (the noble henchman). Still don’t like the brothers Medici. There’s two more seasons but we’d have to buy them. Maybe we’ll get back into it if it comes up on one of our streaming services. It’s really just cool to see Florence.

Started Season 2 last night. It's generations later, focusing on Lorenzo.  The duomo is done, which takes a lot of the appeal out.  It's a little better than season 1, but kind of the same, a rival family (led by Sean Bean, guess what happens to him?), circling around two brothers, a clever one and a wilder emotional one, and an artiste (Botticelli no less).  I watched the first ep, which opened with a few swordfights, then took a bath, then watched a little more and went to sleep.  Stacy binged the whole season last night because Netflix now flips to the next ep super fast.  I don't think I'm going to bother with much more of it.  It was really all about the duomo for me, and seeing Firenze.
