Bleach

Oh, boy. Last night I felt like I could have written a War and Peace size post about how much I did not like this film. Today, I am moving on.

I guess it's based on anime. I think there are cartoon versions of this. All I know is I saw the trailer and I wanted to know what was the deal with that huge ass sword the kid was carrying. And that's how terrible decisions are made.

The film was 90% exposition were the characters stood around telling the audience about the mythos. There were Hollowers and Quincys and Reapers. And they had to tell us a couple of times what each did. And each time they told us what each thing did had shifted a little bit to make the movie work better.

There was definitely a lot of talk about soul pressure and how the main character Ichigo had a lot if it. Which is why his sword was so big.

There might have been a good story in the mess somewhere. I was just getting sleepy from the talking. I almost stopped watching half-way through. But then I decided I wasn't a quitter.

At the end battle scene another Reaper pulls out an even more ridiculous sword that is actually a whip and the CGI was pretty silly. The whole end was pretty silly because it just kept going. The hero kills the monster. Then the hero has to fight the weird sword whip guy. And then he has to fight the sword guys boss and he keeps getting killed except he can't be killed for some unfathomable reason they through jutst to make me even crankier.

It's on Netflix. Skip it.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Pretty much any live-action movie version of a anime is going to be crap.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Do a google search on "Bleach"

I get a box image on the right, and beneath it some ratings.  The imdb rating is 8.2

I then go to the imdb page itself, where it is 7.

It's always important to be inconsistent with oneself.

Anyway, those are both very high ratings -- which is not to say I question your analysis.

Thanks for the wave-off.

Sometimes I’m like Joe here. Joe the bungalow squatter mouse. I see the trap. It’s been there for a while and it’s so obvious. But my oh my, that’s a tasty looking piece of cheese.

So I watched the 1st ep of the original anime (also netflixable). It was kinda funny in that absurd anime way, particularly with the cartoonish over reactions (sailor moon did that so much better tho). Ep 1 sets it all up quickly but I wasn’t compelled to watch more. Then I watched the live action. Couldn’t even make it through what was covered in the 1st ep. Bailed just before the big sword reveal. So bad. So off the mark.

Now I am struggling to think of an anime the converted to live action well, just to prove Sequoia-dreamer wrong... but I can’t. He may be right. I can’t even think of a mediocre one. They all suck.

Ghost in the Machine was the best effort.

Oldboy FTW

Rurouni Kenshin was also enjoyable

Truth be told, I didn’t know OB was an anime - goog told me.

RK’s original anime is a available on Netflix now. Might check that out a bit.
