This is one of those teenage 1st romance tales, an original Netflix. Tara wanted Stacy to see it. I had denied it earlier because there were no fight scenes (I don’t remember saying that - Tara said I said it - but I don’t doubt her). It’s actually quite sweet. The lead actress nails it - Lana Condor - one to watch. She’s also an Asian lead which is so refreshing. There are nods to Korean culture with Yakult references (which Tara says is trending with her gen largely due to this film) and a good comment on Long Duk Dong of 16 Candles, plus a few other subtle nods without it getting overly Asian, just enough to be authentic. Kind of trippy to watch mainstream US media go more Asian. We’ve come along way since Sulu.
Not even remotely DOOM but I thought I’d share.
