The Last Defender of Camelot by Roger Zelazny
#1
Technically this was a re-read; I read it in high school, but had forgotten most everything. And I didn't read the whole book this time; the two longest stories didn't grab me - "He Who Shapes," which was reworked into the novel The Dream Master, and "Damnation Alley," which became a novel and movie, neither of which I know anything about.

The rest of it is quite good. The title story is about Lancelot who survived until the present, when Merlin is freed from his imprisonment. Also good was "The Stainless Steel Leech," an SF/horror story, which I found funnier now than when I was in high school. Some of you may remember the SFBC edition of this book, with an illustration of this story on the jacket.

I think the standout here is "For a Breath I Tarry" about an AI that wants to learn all about the extinct humans.
