Wagner, Strauss & Rimsky-Korsakov - SC Symphony 1/27/18
#1
Really got into the tuba & cymbal players tonight. It’s so delightful to unplug and marvel at 80+ pro musicians work out these monster pieces. And we luv being able to walk there and back.

Override to Die Meistersinger isn’t one of my fav Wagner pieces. Turned out to be the weakest of the night. Still had its moments tho, still Wagner.

Four Last Songs was full of melancholy and featured an opera singer that was tremendous. Made me wonder if I’ve done enough, or if I will have done enough when my time comes. The supertitles were really evocative.

Scheherazade went all over the place, really showcasing to 1st violin - he’s such a rock star. Part 4 was wonderfully bombastic and tender and my fav of the evening. Waited all night to hear that gong, and then it was rather flat, but otherwise a very enjoyable piece.
