Destination Universe by A.E. Van Vogt
#1
On one hand, this is pretty much just 1940sĀ pulp. On the other, it's a bit odd. I read once that Van Vogt liked to lay down to take a nap, and then get up when he got a good idea while in the almost asleep (is that hypnogogic?) state. So his stories tend to have an odd dreaminess to them, often with mixed dread and fear. The down side of that is sometimes they don't resolve well. So if you like old pulp, check it out. A couple of the stories are very clever and a bit humorous.
