Not to be confused with the 2002 Skins also streaming on Netflix.
This is Eduardo Casanova's first feature-length film (he's done a lot of shorts), though it's a bit short at 1 hr 17 min.
He's 27 and shows a whole lot of talent, with John Waters and Pedro Almodóvar sensibilities (oh, let's toss a bit of Fellini in there too). Skins is about various people who, due to deformities or skin conditions, are alienated from society, and how they intersect and interact with each other in their everyday struggles.
This is a difficult movie to watch. Rumor has it that Netflix buried it deep within its bowels after realizing what a grotesque product it was. Then again, maybe down-votes accounted for that (though it gets a 6.3 on imdb). I couldn't really stop watching, as it shows things you're not likely to see elsewhere, and I give it kudos for that. But my stomach never got comfortable with the material. That's saying a lot, coming from me. In fact, some of those scenes keep coming back to me -- eye worms?
Grotesque and challenging. Watch at your own risk.
