The Calling (2009)
#1
Emily Beecham becomes a nun. What a waste, right? It's starts kinda goofy with a comic oboe soundtrack and quirky nuns and then gets really intense with the complicated tragic backstories and then complicated tragedies ensue. Emily works her acting chops something fierce as she tackles a complicated tragic character. I was more engaged than I thought I would be. A partial snapshot of just how effed up it is to be a renunciate. I've spent more time living in and about monasteries than most, and contemplated becoming a bhiksu (I've taken layman vows as you might remember) which is quite different than those of a catholic nun but some still resonates. There's always a reason for renunciation and it's not always a calling.

I should really watch Daphne.
