Dee Dee's family loves camping and tries to schedule an annual outing for our group. This year we got a sweet group site at Sol Duc forest in Olympic National Park, WA.
No power, running water or cell service. There was a bear-proof porta-potty thing with Purell dispensers and toilet paper but that was it for modern conveniences. The great thing was that it was totally private, over 1/2 mile from the single-tent 'loops' that were adjacent to each other and the road. It looked like a tent city as we drove through totally lost.
I have no exciting stories. Day 1 I drank whiskey and chatted with my in-laws around the fire to Day 5 I drank whiskey and chatted with my in-laws around the fire. In between we went on a couple of hikes, visited Rialto Beach and played cards.
At least I got to see it before Trump opens it up for unregulated logging.
On the way back we stayed at the Win River casino and hotel in Redding so that I could buy some branded crap to take to my work (Wind River).
The interesting (obvious) thing about the trip was the lack of cell service. The 40+ crowd didn't care, The 30+ crowd were annoyed and drove into town to send an important email, the under 20 crowd were freaking out. I saw the post 2010 generation called ''iGen' and i get it now.
