At 9:55 this morning, my father was pronounced dead. He died in his sleep. He was 83 years old

I was with my father when he died and I felt an intense closeness.

There will be a vigil from 11am to 9pm on Friday with a rosary at 7:30pm. This will be held at the Alamdea Funeral home 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale. The mass will be Saturday at 11am at the Church of Ascension on Prospect. We will having a reception at the house at 2pm on Saturday after going to the grave site. Some details are still being worked out.

We needed nearly a dozen death certificates to close accounts and such. It's easier to get extra with the initial one then to go back for more. It was one of those dumb hassles that stick out in my mind.

We actually got 10 coming. I don't think (fingers crossed) we need quite as many since my mom and dad have so many joint accounts.

That should do it, or at least get you started.  Even with joint accounts, you need to do some paperwork.  My parents had lots of joint accounts too, but there were weird complications, mostly because my dad was listed first.  Took months to settle.  It's such a process.
