The Death of King Arthur by Thomas Malory and Peter Ackroyd
#1
This is an abridgment with updated language of Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur. Ackroyd does a good job; the language has an appropriate feel, but it isn't as convoluted as the Malory's language. And it has the additional advantage of being only 1/2-1/3 the length of Malory. I'd recommend it if you want a good telling of the story and don't mind that you don't get every word. (In the introduction he said that he left out some repetitive parts and cleaned up some inconsistencies.)
