Verdi's Requiem, Santa Cruz Symphony, 5/6/17
#1
I love it when nearly 200 musicians come together to tackle a piece like this. The house was full. SCS did an admirable performance, including the dad of one of Tara's classmates in the choir. What a rich sound. I enjoy going to the symphony in jeans. Verdi's take on requiem shfts to and fro from sophisticated 4 part opera to symphonic bombast (the guy on the big drum drew extra applause).

Dies Irae remains one of my all time favorites, although I'm most into Berlioz's version, but prefer Verdi's to Mozart's.
