The Damned @ The Fillmore 04/11/17
#1
This was the 40th anniversary tour of The Damned.

Who knew punk would grow old so gracefully?

At one point Captain Sensible (in his trademark red beret) yelled "I'm 62! Is there anyone here fucking older than me?"

The Captain stole the show, making snarky comments and playing fiery guitar. The band played mostly older pre-Phantasmagoria cuts like "New Rose", "Neat, Neat, Neat", "Wait for the Blackout", "I Just Can't be Happy Today" etc.

They gave props to The Fillmore throughout the show, naming the artists who played there and inspired them. They also did a rousing punk version of "White Rabbit".

I'd seen them last year but this show was much more spontaneous. Dave Vanian let the Captain call the shots and vanished into the background until his voice was required to start the song.

The opening band 'Bleached' were really good. In-Your-Face melodic punk by 3 girls and a guy drummer. I bought a record.

Side note: No apples : (
