I crossed paths with Ed in the early '80s. One of the kindest people you could ever know.
We once got into a bidding war at an auction at a science fiction convention. At stake was a paper mache sculpture of a fly with a human head. Big spenders, we kept upping each other by a dollar. I won by virtue of someone distracting Ed at one point.
Over the years, the fly with the human head slowly decayed and broke apart and no longer exists.
The same, alas, is now true of Ed. The rest of us wait our turn.
A great writer and teacher. Kind, generous, a mentor to so many. A reminder to me that I should give back for all the good that's come my way. I need to work on that.

I'm nobody's pony.
