I know, I know - dm jonzing for a Bollywood fix. Actually the next installment of this franchise (#6) goes to China and adds Kung Fu. Srsly. Ron Yuan of Marco Polo is the lead. So I thought I'd check out the original.
It's Breakin' (1984) - male street dancer hooks up with a female classical dancer in art school - they break up but reunite for the finale dance number. The twist is it's Channing Tatum, and we watch him fall in love for real. He married the female lead, Jenna Tatum, after this film. So there's an undeniable chemistry because Channing can't really act. The Tatums are a beautiful couple and talented dancers, so despite the hackneyed plot and mediocre production, the film has a spark that launches the franchise cash cow.
I doubt I'll watch any more installments until the new China one. No swordfights.
