Wynton Marsalis & Jazz Lincoln Center Orchestra @ Santa Cruz Civic 10/1/16
#1
Jazz is often too sophisticated for me, too much work to follow, but I appreciate the virtuosity. The JLCO was keys, drums, standing bass & a dozen horns. Each solo was masterful. Together, the JLCO was so tight and precise. You could tell no one knew what they were going to play next because they all waited for Wynston to say it before turning to their proper sheet music. There were some acoustic issues but they rolled with it and when a siren went by (the Civic is right next to the fire station) the soloist played into the siren - improv at its finest. Truly an amazing show but I'm exhausted from the listening.
