Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay (2016)
#1
What a relief to get away from the endless stacks of books about Hungary and slip into a novel by one of my favorite authors, Guy Gavriel Kay. This book is a sequel of sorts to his Sarantium novels, only a thousand years later. What makes these books fun for me is that they are loosely based on our own history, in this case the rise of the Ottoman empire and the city states of Venice and Dubrovnik. Fun Fact, I didn't realize that Dubrovnik was a city state.

There are a bunch of story lines that intertwine that stretches from Venice to Istanbul or whatever the names they are called in the story. The story follows very predictable themes but they are told really well. And much like the story of Sarantium, an artist is one of the heroes at the center of the story.

What can I say, I really like Kay and this is a really good Kay book.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
