RIP Rob Wasserman
#1
LRob was the standing bassist for RatDog (Bob Weir's band, of the Dead).

I met him once backstage at the Fox in Redwood City, when he was accompanying Lou Reed. Reed had gifted Gigi and me backstage passes and the two performed with one other musician and it was an amazing stripped down show. The Fox is tiny; not much of a backstage really. Gigi and I hung out rather awkwardly backstage as Lou held court, and when Rob walked passed by, I complimented him and shook his hand. He had just come out of the bathroom and his hands were wet. It was even more awkward. Gigi had no idea how to behave backstage, or even what a privilege it was to get invited back by Lou. But Lou was the epitome of cool. He ditched his entourage and came over to us to talk about tai chi.

Rob's bass solos remain some of the best I have ever heard.
