Montecito Heights
#1
My neighborhood is in the news. Yesterday, as Cindi and I did a dog walk through Debs Park, four helicopters buzzed the park for at least an hour. We were in some confusion over what the helicopters from the local news stations were looking for since it seemed they were hovering over us rather than the nearby freeway.

As we neared the end of a walk, some fellow dog walkers told us they were barred by police from entering a certain section of the park. Turns out, two dead young women had been found at about 2:30. There have also been two other separate incidents of bodies being found in our area in the last week.

No word yet on how the women died.

**UPDATE** According to the police there were not two other murders in the area in the last week. That was just a rumor.

MONTECITO HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two women who were found dead in a gully at Ernest E. Debs Regional Park in Montecito Heights have been identified.

Los Angeles police identified the first victim as 19-year-old Gabriela Calzada. Friends of the second victim identified her as 17-year-old Briana Gallegos.

A woman hiking with her dog spotted their bodies at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday about 300 yards from the street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Investigators said the two women were fully clothed and did not appear to have been sexually assaulted.

Police believe Calzada and Gallegos knew each other and were killed at the location they were discovered.

The bodies didn't appear to be there for long, according to authorities.

"Based on the fact that it's in the park and we do have wildlife in the park and the bodies don't seem to be touched in that sense," LAPD Captain Martin Baeza said.

Police declined to discuss how the women were killed, citing the integrity of the investigation.

What's interesting about the coverage is that every story I have read has all those same slugs without anything new.
