Smuggler's Cove - S.F. Bar
#1
So a couple of years ago one of my in-laws who works in S.F. said we should check out a place called "Smuggler's Cove" on Gough St. He hadn't been there but his co-workers had mentioned it.

Fast forward to 2015 when S.C has been voted one of the 50 Best Bars in the U.S.A. ( <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.worlds50bestbars.com/fifty-best-bars-list/smugglers-cove.php?pid=best-50-2014">http://www.worlds50bestbars.com/fifty-b ... st-50-2014</a><!-- m --> )

We decide to check it out.

After gorging on delicious pizza at 'Patxi's' we wandered over to the bar at 650 Gough St. The windows are blacked out and only some small stick-on letters tells you that this is the place. It is only open 5PM - 2AM, holds 48 people and warns you about a possible line to get in. We arrived at 5:15PM (Saturday) and had to wait about 15 minutes.

The bar is tiny, but the drinks are reasonably priced (for 2015) and made by a master.

I had a Painkiller $10 (4 oz rum version = $2 extra), Dead Reckoning and something else...

Anyway, the "Island/Pirate/Tiki" decor is over-the-top, no seating (unless you are first in line for the upstairs table) but the drinks were delicious!

Great place to take visiting tourists but not a place to chill out.
