Dark Star: H.R. Giger's World
#1
It's kind of a horror film of a documentary. They went out of their way with moody music and odd camera angles to give a creepy vibe to the project. But given the subject matter I guess it is kind of apropos.

It also starts out slow. Kind of a let's pop into the Giger's house with our cameras and see what happens sort of movie. Eventually they touch on the major aspects of Giger's life including his work on Alien. But a lot of the movie roams around Giger's house and looks at his art work. Yes, he built a horror train ride in his back yard. Giger is there (Stop changing it to Ginger, auto-correct) and it looks like he has a had a stroke or some other health malady. He croaks when he talks. He shuffles around. He needs help getting out of chairs.

There are lots of interviews with his current support staff and his wife. You do get to learn a little about why he paints the way he does. And not a lot of editing with his painting. He just gets out the airbrush gun and goes.

So, I learned a little bit more about Giger but not a hell of a lot. Mostly it was a portrait of an old man's funky house and his cat.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
