Guinness makes Whiskey

Quote:The team at Diageo, the company behind Guinness, has been taking a break from downing pints at the pub to focus on making Roe & Co, a blended whiskey that will debut next week, just in time for St. Paddy's Day. Master blender Caroline Martin spent two years sampling, blending and aging Irish whiskeys in bourbon casks to find the right balance, which, according to the company, has a creamy nose with "notes of soft spice and mellow spun sugar along with warm hints of woody vanilla."

While limited bottles will be available in select European markets starting next week, large-scale production won't start until early 2019, VinePair notes. When it does, the whiskey will be made at a new distillery on the site of an old Guinness plant in Dublin, which was a longtime neighbor of Ireland's one-time largest whiskey producer, George Roe, the namesake of the new brand.
No word yet on when the bottles might make it to the U.S., but for those visiting Europe, we're sure a bottle would fit nicely into your suitcase.

Best birthday present ever.

....or at least it will be should i live to 2019.

Actually, if production starts in 2019, won't it be 2022 because doesn't Ireland require 3 years minimum aging time to legally be called whiskey?

In all honestly, I'm not that into the other Guinness products beyond their stouts, except for Smithwicks.  Black Lager and Blonde are embarrassing attempts to widen their market, as this whiskey might be given that it's just a blended one.  No, it's only draft Guinness now, pulled in a James Joyce certified Irish pub.   Icon_jook

Wow, snuck up on me.  Happy birthday, DM.

May your nose be creamy with draft Guinness pulled (by means of Van Gogh's ear) from James Joyce's special woody vanilla tap.

With some mellow spun sugar tossed in there somewhere....

'Twas a quiet one this year. No JGB, no Prince, just a nice dinner at Lilian's where I indulged in some diabetic-forbidden fettuccine. Work was quiet but I did get some positive news. More to come on that hopefully soon (don't want to jinx it until it's completely in hand).

As we each year win the Birthday Lottery again, the quiet ones are usually the most savored. HBD, Gene. Many happy returns of the day.

Ack! Missed a time-sensitive subject. I'm not apologizing though. I'm not a fan of the whole birthday thing unlless it involves an open-bbar party.

I'm just happy you're alive and my friend.

A very Happy Unbirthday to you!
