Pitch Perfect
#1
And the hits just keep on coming. I've got to stop thinking I know what the buzz is on certain films.

Perfect Pitch brings you inside the world of the cutthroat competition of college acapella groups. I should have quit there. But I'm thinking this film is aimed at the Glee crowd. There are plenty of singing numbers including a acapella battle that was supposed to be like a rap battle. It was all very confusing. I kept praying for a gun battle to break out. Basically a misfit outsider wannabe DJ has to join one group on college for a year so her father will let her quit and go to Los Angeles where she can pursue her dream of making fat beats. She clashes with the leader of the Barnard Belles over the direction of the group which she finds too square. She gets kicked out of the group and then realizes they were the only friends she has ever had. Naturally there is another acapella group on campus that there rivals. Naturally, there is a big competition they are trying to win and only through a series of bizzarre scenarios do they get accepted.

Eventually they all work together and well I let you guess what happens.

Rife with cliches, some fine singing, and mediocre acting, I'm sure this would have made an excellent episode of Glee. Too bad I don't care for Glee.

Just like to point out I have had Ace of Base's 'I saw the sign' stuck in my head since watching this movie. Yet another reason to give it a pass. (And please don't tell anyone that I knew that Ace of Base sang 'I saw the sign')

My daughter's last night before Oaxaca so we went out to the movies. She loves pp1. Pp2 is more of the same. It struck me as a little funnier but I'm down on sleep and looking to be distracted. Still very glee. I do like Rebel and I usually detest fat chick comic relief. An Anna is watchable. The rest of the gals are rather stereotypes, but the underlying girl power vibe lets them get away with it.

Still no swordfights...there's a pillow fight :?

Alas, I miss Britana of glee.

The most disappointing thing about this film is that it is seldom true a cappella. There's usually added rhythm and bass.

There are also a lot of odd cameos. Snoop dog? Srsly?

I knew yall wanted to know...

I thought the mashups of songs were very cleverly put together, which made the movie for me. (My favorite Glee moment has to be the Umbrella/Singin' in the Rain number.)

Unfortunately the song we see Anna Kendrick working on (remix 500 Miles by the Proclaimers) is not available for download and I thought that was one of the best songs in the movie.
