Yes, tQ is out of town and I'm racing through the crappy DVD's hoping to find some gold.
Gold still not found.
It's a found footage film about a trio of teenagers gifted with super powers by some alien glowing star-rock thing, The focus of the film is the outside who is being physically abused by his Dad while his mother dies in the room. The Dad is the only recognizable actor in the group. The loner's only friend is his cousin. The third leg of the tripod is the school class president.
It's a really slow film. It takes a long time to get to the super powers bit. And then there is a lot of learning to use the super powers. The cousin gets scared after an accident on the road and decides there should be rules about using their powers. They spend the rest of the movie breaking those rules.
I was getting into the lets turn this off mode because I have my life still to live but I gave it a few more minutes. Which was a good thing. The final battle at the end of the film almost makes the preceding ten hours of film worth it. It's a great battle, shown in security cam, handi-cam, and helicopter cam footage. Some of the shots were fantastic. The early part of the film should have been more like the end.
The problem with the film is it's an origin story. A lot of the tropes they use to show them learning their powers have been done better in other films. Maybe they were playing the edgy card by having the father beat up the boy. But you know all the kids who pick on him early in the film are going to get their comeuppance later in the film.
So rent it and fast forward to the last twenty or so minutes. As soon as the fight ends, turn it off. You don't want to see the schmaltzy summation.
