Journey to the West by Wu Chengen
#1
I read this in college and didn't get it. Monkey's deux ex machina spells just made no sense to me at all. I just finished reading it to T as a bedtime story and we had a great time with it. It's a fun children's book as soon as you're comfortable saying 'piss' and 'shit' to your kid. T loved it. The Buddhist metaphors are much clearer to me now. Next, we might explore some of the film and TV versions.

We're moving on to Arthurian legend next. ;-)

I think I saw ads for a brand new version of Journey to the West on TV in China. Or maybe it was just another Dengfeng hallucination.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

There's also a few new film versions coming. Donnie Yen is fronting a major 3D IMAX version to be released soon.

There are so many versions - possibly more than any other epic of its length.
