It's the story of 18th century Edinburgh grave robbers and murderers, Burke and Hare. It stars Andy Serkis and Simon Pegg supported by Tom Wilkinson and Tim Curry. It's directed by John Landis, his first directing job in over ten years. Sounds great! It's why I rented it.
As the Queen pointed out, it was never released theatrically in the United States. Yeah, turns out she had a salient point. It wasn't that good. There were weird gags thrown in I think at the hands of Landis. It's starts out promising at the hangman's gallows, with the hangman doing the narration, but the story never gelled. There wasn't a lot of arc to the story. The need money. They find dead bodies. They make their own dead bodies. They get caught. The end. Not a lot surprises or drama.
Swing and a miss.
